The Chinese Students and Scholars Association
of Cornell University Medical College, The Rockefeller
University, Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Hospital for
Special Surgery (CSSA) is a student organization registered on
the Cornell medical campus and in the Rockefeller University. We
are a non-profit and non-political organization committed to
promoting social, intellectual and cultural activities and
cultural exchange for Chinese students and scholars as well as
other students and scholars at the above-mentioned four
institutions and other members in the nearby community.
Each year CSSA
organizes many cultural and sport activities for all the members
of WMC, RU, MSKCC and HSS. All members in the four institutions
are welcome to join our activities. Major activities include the
annual Mid-autumn Festival party, Chinese New Year Celebration,
spring outing, summer picnic, new student welcoming and
orientation. We also organize regular seminars and exhibitions
to introduce to the four-institution community Chinese culture
and the potential academic and business opportunities in China.
As the major
student organization that serves as a link between the four
academic institutions and the local Chinese community as well as
China, our activities are frequently reported by the local and
international media, such as Qiao Bao (www.thechinapress.com),
Overseas Chinese Net (www.chinaqw.com.cn)
and People’s Daily (the official news agency of the Chinese
government,
www.people.com.cn). |

Chinese Students and Scholars Association of

President: Mo Zhou |
The Chinese Students & Scholars Association (CSSA)
of New York University Medical Center is a nonprofit
organization aiming at providing opportunities for club members
to better integrate themselves at NYU and in NYC, as well as to
introduce Chinese culture to the people outside the association.
The main events of the year are: Chinese New Year festival in
Jan/Feb and the Mid-Autumn festival in Sept/Oct (exact date may
vary depending on the lunar calendar). Each year, we expect more
than 200 people to attend these events, including friends from
other countries and regions. Such festivals consist of dinner
parties, variety shows, movie nights and other social events.
This not only celebrates the Chinese cultural festivals, but
also provides a great opportunity for people around the world to
better understand Chinese culture and its people.
We also have collaboration with other Chinese organizations and
student groups to help diversify the life of members. Various
social events have been held previously, including skiing trip,
cherry blossom excursion, spring picnic and etc. The CSSA also
acts as an information exchange platform to keep our members
informed about coming events and important notices.
Aside from the social and networking opportunities, another
crucial aspect of this association is to help new Chinese
students adjust to their new environment. Members aid in
offering a smooth transition for new Chinese students into
American lifestyle and academia, in the form of one-on-one help.
We expect the association could serve as a buffer to absorb the
impact of the dramatic shift new students may face. Help from
individual Chinese tutors will ease the students into the
English speaking environment, helping them understanding the
lectures and speaking English, and eliminating the tension of
expressing their ideas during discussion sessions. This can, in
turn, result in substantial improvement of the students'
academic performance.
All in all, the CSSA is the central Chinese organization in New
York University Medical Center. With its sole purpose of better
serving Chinese students and scholars, we expect and sincerely
appreciate your participation and support. |
